God knows the details.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?
Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Matthew 10:29-30 niv

Record my lament;
list my tears on your scroll
are they not in your record?

Psalm 56:8 niv

We sometimes think that God is so very big and great, that He takes no notice of the small things.  But, on the contrary, because He is so very great in His unlimited power of understanding and attention, no detail is missed.  He knows everything that happens to every one of His creatures.  Nothing escapes his notice.

Prayer:  Lord, thank You that you are detailed and meticulous… that You take the care to know every little thing about us and all things.

God is omniscient (all-knowing), “even” when it comes to us.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
1 Corinthians 13:12 niv

But the man who loves God is known by God.
1 Corinthians 8:3 niv

God knows us.  He formed us in our mothers’ wombs.  He knows our thoughts and our words.  He knows our hearts.  Our deep longing to be “fully known” is met by our loving Father.  God knows us even better than we know ourselves.  He knows us and He loves us…through Christ we need not hide in shame.

Prayer:  Lord, thank You that you know everything about us. It’s such a relief to have a God who knows and understands us.

God is omniscient, all-knowing.

Who has understood the mind of the LORD,
       or instructed him as his counselor?

Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,
       and who taught him the right way?
       Who was it that taught him knowledge
       or showed him the path of understanding?

Isaiah 40:13-14 niv

Have you ever caught yourself directing God what to do to answer your prayers?  How could we teach God, or counsel Him… or direct Him to the “correct” solution to our problems? The Lord needs no counsel. Today we bow before the all-knowing God who needs no suggestions.

Prayer:  Lord, we praise You that You are wise and that You don’t need us to tell You what to do.  Thank You that You are completely self-sufficient.

Jesus knows us.

But Jesus would not entrust himself to them,
for he knew all men.
He did not need man's testimony about man,
for he knew what was in a man.
John 2:24-25 niv

God’s understanding has no limit.

He determines the number of the stars
       and calls them each by name.

 Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
       his understanding has no limit.

Jesus remains the same.

Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8 niv

Jesus never differs from himself. He is divinely perfect.  As He loved each of us on the day He died to pay for our sins, so He loves us today.  He can not be manipulated.  As He purposed in His heart from the beginning, so His plans remain fixed and firm.

Prayer:  Lord, thank You that you never change; we can always depend on you and always are able to expect Your same love and faithfulness.

God does not lie.  He does not change his mind.

He who is the Glory of Israel
does not lie or change his mind;
for he is not a man, that he should change his mind.
1 Samuel 15:29 niv

We have all experienced the pain of being lied to.  Our great God is a refuge of honesty.  We can trust and rely on His faithful word.  He is completely able to keep every promise He has made and He is absolutely faithful to do so.

Prayer:  Lord, thank You so much for Your faithfulness.  You are the only One that is completely and totally trustworthy.

God does not change throughout generations.

"I the LORD do not change. So you, O
descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.”
Malachi 3:6 niv

In this passage God is speaking of how He has dealt with past generations, and that He will not change.  “Return to me, and I will return to you...”He says (Malachi 3:7).  God is consistent throughout the generations.  As we see His character revealed in the Bible, we can be sure He remains, because He does not change.

Prayer:  Thank You, Lord, that we can always count on You.  You will always love us.  Thank You that we don’t need to be afraid.

God’s love is unfailing.

Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you
will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10 niv

The Bible speaks of God’s “unfailing love” 29 times (in the NIV) mostly in the Psalms.  King David knew it intimately; he had tested its limits as he weathered battles, family trials and the struggles of leadership.  He also tested the strength and endurance of God’s love when he committed adultery and murder.  God’s love was unfailing through it all.  Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13)

Prayer:  Thank You, God, that no matter how bad we are, You still love us more than we can imagine.

God is infinite, boundless, unlimited.

To all perfection I see a limit;
       but your commands are boundless.

Psalm 119:96 niv

Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
       your faithfulness to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
       your justice like the great deep.

Psalm 36:5-6a niv

Whatever God is, He is without limit.  He is not just loving, He is perfectly and infinitely loving.  When he forgives, He does so completely.  He does not run out of mercy…His love and mercy can not be separated from Him because what God is, He is perfectly and consistently.  There is boundless love, mercy and forgiveness for us in the heart of God through Christ.

Prayer:  Jesus we are in awe of Your boundless perfection.
